In an effort to entertain fans during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, many artists and promoters have hosted online-only events. Primarily through the use of live streaming platforms, artists are able to perform to fans all over the world while it’s still unsafe to gather in person.
While this model has created opportunities for some, countless music venues have been left scrambling for ways to keep the lights on. In an effort to combat this problem, promoter LWE and London’s Tobacco Dock are thinking outside the box with a recently announced venture into digital event space.
Debuting in April is Tobacco Dock Virtual, a virtual reality-enabled club experience. It’s powered by VR platform Sansar, and fans will be able to create an avatar and party in real-time with clubgoers in a digitally recreated Tobacco Dock.
On the website dedicated to the virtual space, LWE directors, Paul Jack and Will Harold, spoke on the opportunities the program looks to create. “TDV is the next step on our journey will pave the way for hybrid events within a fully immersive digital and physical space, providing a huge new platform to showcase music,” they wrote.
A kick-off party was announced to celebrate the virtual grand opening. Over Easter weekend, nearly fifty artists will perform to a crowd of fan avatars for a free, two-night event. Fans will be able to enjoy a multi-genre selection of talent across four virtual stages. Some of the performers slated to take the stage include Adam Beyer, Chase & Status, Camo & Krooked, Patrick Topping, Eats Everything, and Skream.

Those who do not have access to a virtual reality-enabled device are still in luck as the show can be enjoyed by other means. Anyone with a PC, Mac, or mobile device will be able to tune in for the show as it is available in the Sansar app and will also be streamed on Twitch and YouTube.
Tobacco Dock’s virtual club will open on Friday, April 2nd, 2021. You can learn more about their digital realm, the performers, and how to join in on the fun on the Tobacco Dock Virtual website.
