Sacred Bones Records to Release First Album made from the Womb

Luca Yupanqui will become the first person to record an album from inside the womb.

Sounds Of The Unborn is certainly a future-forward concept, and it required some help from Luca’s parents, Psychic Ills bassist Elizabeth Hart and Iván Diaz Mathé. The parents used biosonic MIDI technology to record and interpret the womb sounds in five hourlong sessions, eventually forming a full-length album.

While Hart and Diaz Mathé mixed and edited the sessions, they tried to intervene as little as possible, giving the album a raw and organic sound true to the initial recordings. Luca is a toddler now, and the album has finally come together and is slated for release via Sacred Bones Records. Upon hearing it for the first time, Luca seemed to enjoy it according to her parents.

“Her awareness of what was happening was astounding,” the parents said in a press release. “She would open her eyes wide and stare at her parents, seemingly recognizing her own sounds from the womb, knowing that they were revisiting those rituals that made them come together as one.”

The ambient soundscapes of Luca’s time in the womb will be available for listening on Sounds Of The Unborn, to be released via Sacred Bones Records on April 2nd.
