As the Pacha Group gears up for a sizable expansion in 2021, a prominent personality in dance music has joined the ranks of their leadership. The entertainment company has announced that none other than BBC Radio 1 host Pete Tong has been appointed to its new board of directors.

Tong, who famously helped introduce house music to the U.K. with a 1986 compilation titled The House Sound of Chicago, Vol. 1, has watched Pacha Nightclub grow and evolve over the decades. As brand guardian, he will usher in an era that will see the flagship Ibiza club’s management expand its dance floor, install a new DJ booth, implement new visual technology, and redesign its interior.

Internationally, the Pacha Group will pull the trigger on a holistic and transformative resort concept called Casa Pacha Formentera starting in March 2021. After the first one opens on the island of Formentera, locations will be added around Europe and the U.S.

“When Pacha approached me with this opportunity I couldn’t say no,” said Tong in a statement. “While many people know the name, not many really know its real influence on music and nightlife over the last 50+ years.”

“Pacha has been a glamorous and hedonistic meeting place for generations of global jet setters and music lovers, from the ’60s through to now,” he went on. “It was instrumental in introducing house music to Europe; it has hosted the world’s best DJs and inspired countless others. As the brand evolves into a global hospitality company, I wanted to be part of exporting its true spirit. God knows, we all need it right now.”

“Pacha, which saw its first party in 1967, has been a byword for Ibiza and its history; its culture, music, and acceptance, and creativity,” added Pacha Group CEO Nick McCabe. “We feel passionately that this is the right time to spread the philosophy of the island globally and connect our experiences to more people in more ways … With Pete’s knowledge and guidance, we are confident we will.”
