A matter of days after Chicago house artist Boo Williams released the two-tracker Cookie Mode 101/The People, he’s announced his first EP of 2021. LOL is due out January 4th by way of Italian record label NICEPEOPLE.
LOL keeps with the minimal style of deep house that has long been Williams’ forté. The title track pairs samples of a man laughing with retro sound design elements, whereas “Backwards Run” offers an exploration of spacey, atmospheric synths. “Bangin Out” rounds out the EP with a hint of acid and infectious melody reminiscent of the artist’s Windy City roots.
Boo Williams Revisited
Boo Williams was a fixture of Chicago dance music since 1981, around the same time house emerged as a prominent nightlife regime in the city. His career as a producer would begin nearly a decade later with the release of his 1994 EP A New Beginning via Relief Records.
In the 2000s, Williams put out music at a somewhat less frequent rate – but he’s picked his pace up in the past decade. From 2012 to the present he’s delivered several releases per year on such labels as Chiwax, Goldmin Music and Nuphuture Traxx.
LOL is available for pre-order in digital and vinyl formats via NICEPEOPLE Bandcamp.
