The ongoing COVID-19 crisis has claimed yet another electronic music institution. The owners of Frankfurt record store GOSU have announced that they must discontinue operations at the end of 2020 after a five-year run.
“Selling records is by no means easy money and since COVID-19 has become a part of our everyday life, especially in the cultural sector, it has become even more tough,” reads a statement shared by GOSU. “After we were able to reopen after the first lockdown, we’ve been there for you five days a week.”
It continues: “That’s why on one hand it wasn’t an option for us to ask for donations – on the other hand we don’t want to cut back on our work in any way in the future! Therefore, with a heavy heart, we’ve decided to close the shop at the end of 2020.”
Although the record store will shutter its doors, the label of its namesake will live on according to the statement. GOSU’s owners teased additional plans for the brand going into 2021 without disclosing any specific details.
Until then, customers can enjoy 25% off all purchases as well as a “surprise for all supporters” through the end of the year. More information is available on the GOSU website.
