U.S. DJ and producer Garrett Lockhart, known professionally as i_o, passed away on Monday, November 23rd at the age of 30.

Lockhart’s death was made public in a post to his social media accounts on Tuesday. No cause of death has been disclosed at the time of writing.

Prior to adopting the stage name i_o, Lockhart released music under the alias Fawks beginning in 2015, and caught attention with releases under his real name that came out via Spinnin’ Records. His 2017 debut single as i_o, “Warning,” appeared on mau5trap‘s We Are Friends, Vol 7 compilation. Over the next couple years he would amass a following for his techno-inspired style of EDM.

In 2020, Lockhart spoke candidly about how the COVID-19 crisis of 2020 weighed on his emotional wellbeing. In an Instagram post, he shared that his October two-track EP, In My Head, resulted from his frustration over how the pandemic affected his career.

“I’d been going to bed at dawn every day for months and without any future plans or anything on the calendar,” Lockhart wrote. “I, like most people, began to wonder if this was it. Was this what we were left with. It’s that feeling of realizing what’s in your head and what’s in reality don’t always line up and how low you’re willing to let things get before you are willing to acknowledge that maybe it’s your own expectation that’s causing this depression.”

No memorial details have been publicly announced for Garrett Lockhart at the time of writing.
