A household name in Detroit techno is re-releasing his debut album. Kenny Larkin will release a remastered version of Azimuth on his own Art Of Dance label on January 29th, 2021.
Prior to the 1994 release of Azimuth via Warped Records, Larkin had released the singles “We Shall Overcome” and “Integration” via Richie Hawtin‘s Plus 8. His studio-length album stood out for its crisp execution and melodic, dynamic manifestation of Detroit techno, influencing electronic musicians in the U.S. and abroad.
“After doing dance music for almost 30 years, it was time to reach back and look at what got me to where I am today,” Larkin said of the reissue. “Azimuth was my first album project to help establish me as a Detroit techno artist.”
“This is one of many of my older projects that I wanted to introduce to current and older fans of techno,” he went on. “It should compliment my new album I’m working on perfectly. You’ll be able to connect the dots from the past to the present, and see the evolution of my sound.”
According to Resident Advisor, the remaster of the original DAT tapes comes via English studio Curve Pusher. The double-LP and bonus 12-inch will include singles that had only been included in an earlier limited edition of the original release.
