Fine Young Cannibals‘ style of new wave exhibited a distinct danceability that translates well into electronic music. Derrick Carter, Seth Troxler and Dimitri from Paris have been enlisted for an EP comprised of remixes of two of the now-defunct band’s hit singles. The Fine Young Cannibals Remix EP arrives by way of London Recordings on December 2nd.
The effort will include a remix by Carter of “Johnny Come Home” from Fine Young Cannibals’ self-titled debut 1985 album. “She Drives Me Crazy” from the band’s 1989 follow-up effort Raw & the Cooked has been reimagined by Troxler and Dimitri from Paris (real name Dimitrios Yerasimos), meanwhile. The former artist has offered up two separate mixes, and the latter three.
Carter needs no introduction among house music enthusiasts; his career launched during the genre’s ’80s heyday in Chicago with songs like “Love Me Right” and “Mood” (alongside Mark Farina and Chris Nazuka as Symbols & Instruments). Yerasimos (who is from Istanbul, contrary to his stage name) introduced the first-ever house music show to be broadcast in France via Radio NJR in 1986. By comparison, Troxler is a newcomer – although his psychedelic style of techno has been steeped in the musical identity of Detroit since he moved there with his family in the ’90s.
The Fine Young Cannibals Remix EP will accompany a reissue of Fine Young Cannibals’ two aforementioned albums commemorating the first one’s 35-year anniversary. It will include remastered vinyl as well as an expanded 2CD and digital versions.
