Influential New York City-based DJ Spinbad has passed away at the age of 46.
Spinbad (real name Chris Sullivan) was active since the mid-1980s and released a multitude of popular mixtapes, including Rock The Casbah (The 80s Megamix), cited as “the most bootlegged CD of all time.” The famed DJ also toured the globe with Moby, and was well known as one of comedian Russel Peters‘ touring DJs. His Fabric Live album and Underground Airplay Version 1.0 collection are held in high regard among the global DJ community.
A wide array of industry figures have paid tribute to DJ Spinbad, including DJ Yoda, R.A. the Rugged Man, and A-Trak.

“Spinbad is one of the main reasons that I am a DJ,” said Yoda in a tweet. “To this day, I talk about him when I get asked in interviews who my influences are. The world is culturally emptier today without him — I wish I had the chance to say goodbye.”
A-Trak wrote, “Damn, RIP DJ SPINBAD legendary talent.”
R.A. the Rugged Man tweeted, “REST IN PEACE to NYC’s own DJ SPINBAD. Super talent and innovator. Damn.”
Sullivan passed away in New York City on November 11, 2020. His cause of death has yet to be confirmed.
