Eddington Again Unveils Genre-Bending Single, “Petrify”

Eddington Again has fused eclectic R&B musings with a crispy drum and bass beat on his latest, “Petrify.” The Inglewood, California-born artist’s output doesn’t easily snap into the traditional R&B classification. Often veering into the avant-garde, he’s created his own lane in a genre often dominated by a very traditional sound. Drifting into drum and bass comes not as a surprise, but a welcome rhythmic switch up from a catalogue of slow burners.

What’s most compelling and effective about “Petrify” is its simplicity. A hefty low end thwap emanates from the kick, balanced out by a snappy, stuttering snare and shuffling hi-hats. Eddington Again’s hazy baritone wanders between effortless floating and pointed lyrical bounce. His sense of rhythm and turns of phrase take center stage while a reverb-heavy guitar strums in time.

A former roommate of Dylan Reznick of the duo FRIENDZONE, Eddington Again rose to prominence after some post-club night freestyle sessions made their way into FRIENDZONE’s beats. This is how their 2017 hit record “Lyft” came to be.
