As we tread deeper into uncharted territory with no end in sight to shutdowns of concert venues and nightclubs worldwide amid the COVID-19 pandemic, many organizers and promoters have shifted their focus to live streamed events and festivals. The virtual music performance craze has moved into every genre of music, and now Movement Festival has followed suit.
Paxahau, the organization behind Movement, announced that the festival will partner with leading live streaming platform Twitch to produce four virtual festivals, as well as a multitude of weekly streams. Those streams will be hosted on the new platform, Paxahau TV.
Streams begin on September 25th and 26th for Movement Selects Vol. 1. The first installment will feature DJ sets by Maceo Plex and Juan Atkins as well as live performances from Rebecca Goldberg and Kevin Saunderson (under his Inner City alias).
In addition to Movement Selects Vol. 1, the organizers have planned weekly live stream events that will see a multitude of DJs streaming remotely from around the globe via Paxahau TV. The organization’s headquarters in Detroit will host those streams. Aside from DJ sets and live performances, the Paxachat podcast video show will feature behind the scenes studio sessions with a variety of artists, panels, discussions, and more.
Movement At Home, the virtual replacement for the postponed live festival, took place over Memorial Day weekend in 2020, and featured ANNA, Carl Craig, Loco Dice, Matthew Dear, and many others. Some of those performers will return for Movement Detroit in 2021, which is slated to proceed as normal. 2021’s festival will take place in May and will remain at Hart Plaza.
