John Frusciante has cited ’91-’96 jungle and breakbeat hardcore as his favorite era of music. The Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist will soon release an album in this style. Maya, as it’s titled, will arrive by way of Venetian Snares‘ label, Timesig, on October 23rd.
To whet electronic music fans’ appetite for the effort, Frusciante has shared a song from the effort, “Amethblowl.” Characterized by uptempo syncopated beats and deliberate loud noise, the challenging soundscape serves as testament that the multi-faceted musician is not barely dipping his toes into the styles he’s set out to encapsulate in his upcoming effort.
Mixmag reports that Frusciante named Maya after his cat, who recently passed away. Although he expected to produce each song on the album slowly, he said he completed each project relatively quickly.
“I don’t have that interest in singing or writing lyrics like I used to,” he said. “The natural thing when I’m by myself now, is to just make music like the stuff being released this year. I really love the back and forth with machines and the computer.”
