On Tuesday, Erick Morillo was found dead in his Miami Beach residence three days before he was scheduled to appear in court for a hearing in his sexual battery case. The late DJ and producer’s funeral will take place at 11:00 AM EST on Wednesday, September 9th. The ceremony will be live streamed from his social media accounts to raise money for the Brian P. Stack Civic Association.

The nonprofit organization “gives back to the youth and families of Union City” in New Jersey, where Morillo grew up. While Stack was the city’s major, he renamed a section of street after the artist in 2012. Morillo’s family has asked his fans and supporters to donate money to the charity instead of sending flowers. As noted by Big Shot, the organization has been given a failing score by Charity Navigator.

Erick Morillo had been accused of sexual battery by a fellow DJ. After the two played a private party on Star Island in December 2020, she said she went to his house for drinks. She recounted “waking up nude on the bed, with Mr. Morillo standing on the side of the bed also nude” after declining his sexual advances. After a rape kit came back positive with his DNA, he turned himself in to the police with the help of his lawyer in early August.

Upon hearing of Morillo’s death, superstar DJs like Jamie JonesCarl CoxSteve Lawler and David Guetta mourned him in social media posts. Their posts were later condemned by electronic music figureheads like Rebekah and Mr. C for failing to acknowledge his alleged misdeeds.

Erick Morillo’s official cause of death is still pending an autopsy by the Miami Dade County Medical Examiner.
