Cultural institutions in the Netherlands will soon be eligible for a second COVID-19 aid package. Following the €300 million allocated in April, the Dutch government has set aside €482 million for the ailing sector.
Of the total, €150 million will go to venues and theaters sidelined by the pandemic. The remainder will be made available to artists, gig workers and staff as well as museums and filmmakers, according to Resident Advisor.
“Just like other sectors, the cultural and creative sector will have to adapt,” said Dutch culture minister Van Engelshoven, reports IQ. “[But] the cabinet wants there to be a strong cultural and creative sector even after the corona crisis. It also makes a significant contribution to a healthy business climate in the Netherlands.”
€14 million of the newly approved cultural relief package will reportedly go to would-be recipients who lost out on the €62 million Performing Arts Fund announced earlier in the month.
