Daria Lourd, known professionally as Bored Lord, was arrested on felony charges by Oakland police during August 30th Black Lives Matter protests. Lourd’s friends and supporters have launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover the costs associated with her case.
The demonstrations were organized in response to the shooting of Jacob Blake, a Black man, in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Blake was apparently shot seven times in the back by police officers after being tazed, according to police statements and a bystander video that went viral a matter of hours afterwards. The incident reignited Black Lives Matter protests stemming from the May murder of George Floyd by Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, which have spread to every U.S. state as well as numerous countries around the world.
Lourd has not disclosed her charges at the time of writing. Her bail was set at $50,000, and she was released on Sunday after her colleagues were able to raise enough to cover a bondsman’s 10% fee of $5,000. They have left the GoFundMe running to help pay for Lourd’s legal fees as well as those of “other arrested comrades,” promising that none of it will go towards her regular living expenses.
