A number of U.K. nightclub owners have teamed up with the Institute of Occupational Medicine to draft a proposal to reopen the country’s nightlife.

Like most of the world, many bars, nightclubs, and concert venues in the country have been shut down due to the ongoing fight against COVID-19. They are asking for permission to reopen their doors with health practices like mask requirements, temperature checks, ID scanning, and bouncer-enforced social distancing guidelines implemented.

The business owners have warned that if actions are not taken soon, over 750,000 jobs could be lost. In a quote obtained by MixmagPeter Marks, the CEO of one of the U.K.’s largest nightclub organizations, spoke on the financial ruin the industry is facing.

“The late-night leisure sector, a sector which employs tens of thousands across the U.K., is at risk of collapse if the government does not act now – it is that simple,” he said. “We need a clear reopening plan, or at the very least fit-for-purpose financial assistance.”

It’s also been reported that owners are highlighting that pubs and other similar establishments have been reopened. At the time of writing, the U.K. government has not released an official response to the requests.
