Paris Raves of Up to 1,000 Weekly Attendees Fly in the Face of Nightlife Ban

A report from Daily Mail shows that unsanctioned events in Paris are drawing up to 1,000 attendees per week.

The publication states that The Bois de Vincennes is a common gathering place for illegal pop-up techno gatherings. The open-air environment of the public park has made some feel protected by the fact that the COVID-19 virus cannot spread as easily as it can in an enclosed space.

The high risk of transmission in the packed venues is why Paris, like much of the world, shut down nightclubs. This, in turn, created an opportunity for unsanctioned parties to flourish as many are seeking a real-life live music experience.

A Concerning Trend

It’s no secret that illegal events have become popular in many regions amid the pandemic. With the global nightlife industry decimated by COVID-19, many partygoers are looking for alternative ways to be social.

Just last week, Amelie Lens and Michael Bibi performed to packed houses in France and Italy respectively. While licensed and legal, the gatherings drew criticism from some as footage showed poor social distancing practices at the gatherings.

With virus transmission increasing around the world and no guarantee of a vaccine by the end of the year, health experts are urging the public to adhere to the suggested social distancing guidelines.
