Count The Zanzibar Club in Liverpool among the venues forced to close on account of COVID-19. After a 30-year run, the nightclub must permanently discontinue operations.
“The Zanzibar Club has been a true survivor over the past 30 years, but with the current climate of uncertainty and the probability of remaining closed for a year, we have had to make the heartbreaking decision to permanently close our venue,” reads a statement from the club’s director, Scott Burgess. “With very limited time left on our lease and too many years of wear and tear on our building structure puts us in a financially unattainable position to reopen.”
In mid-January, 2020, The Zanzibar Club had reopened after renovations and celebrated its 30th anniversary on January 31st. The following March, they announced that restrictions intended to curb the spread of COVID-19 had forced them to close for an indefinite amount of time.
“Thank you to all gig goers, friends that have turned into family – you all have made Zanzibar feel like a second home for us,” Burgess closed out. “We appreciate everyone for their loyal support over the years and wish you all the best for the future.”
