The BPM Festival: Malta will not move forward as planned on account of the coronavirus. One of the last holdouts of a festival season derailed by the COVID-19 pandemic, its debut would have taken place September 11th-13th, 2020.
Organizers cited discussions with local lawmakers as having prompted their decision. “We are disappointed to announce that after close conversations with our partners at the Maltese Tourism Authority, we have been informed that due to an increase in COVID-19 cases in Malta, we can no longer go ahead with The BPM Festival: Malta this year,” reads a passage of their statement.
BPM was among four Malta festivals to elicit backlash from locals as case counts continued to rise on the island country. Times of Malta reported that Escape 2 The Island, Mi Casa Festival, and Rhythm and Waves Festival had also continued to promote their events on social media in recent weeks. All were organized in part by Entertainment Concepts Limited, a company registered in Malta, but BPM was arguably the biggest.
The BPM Festival: Malta ticket holders will receive a full refund within the next 30 business days not including travel and lodging, according to the statement.
