South Side Weekly Publish Chicago House Crossword Puzzle

Anyone who fancies themselves an expert on Chicago house can put their knowledge to the test with a new crossword puzzle. Courtesy of the South Side Weekly‘s Jim Daley, it’s based on trivia around the genre’s artists, releases and equipment among other finer points.

The riddles posed in the crossword puzzle include “The ones and twos: turn_____,” and “DJ Sneak: ‘______ That Jack Built.'” Mixed in are more generic questions like “Fortnite Developer ______ Games” and “One of Noah’s Sons” included to help weave the tapestry of words together.

House music was arguably Chicago’s chief electronic music export in the ’80s. Championed by disco DJs, it achieved mainstream success in the U.K. and informed genres like techno, hardcore and UK garage. Such notable figures in house’s early history as Chuck RobertsSteve “Silk HurleyFrankie Knuckles and SuperJane are mentioned in Daley’s crossword puzzle.
