Rukaiya Russell has set out to explore the heyday of UK garage in her upcoming book. ABC of UKG: An Alphabet Of UK Garage (The Golden Era) will arrive August 10th, 2020 via publisher Ayia Nippa.
The book’s 26 illustrations will offer a look of the genre at its height from 1997-2001. Russell, a London DJ and producer, wrote it to pay “homage to a scene that changed UK music,” according to the blurb.

“UK garage had a big impact on me growing up and raving in London and I wanted to make something to honor it and bring back memories,” Russell told Resident Advisor. “We have quite a bit of hip-hop memorabilia in my house, including an ABC book for trainers, which my husband got for our son (though really for him) and I wanted something like that for UK garage. It’s for anyone who liked garage back in the day, heads old and new, and anyone who wants a glimpse into what the scene was all about.”
