Medlar‘s latest effort marks the 50th release on WOLF Music. WOLFEP050, as the four-song EP is titled, sees the London producer’s style of house touch on lo-fi and UK garage to fine effect.
Tracks like “Novanta” and “Monday Boy” encapsulate a more synth-driven iteration of the Medlar sound, whereas the aptly titled “Pampas Drums” is largely percussive. The standout of the EP is arguably “Paloma,” though. Between its inventive melody and crisp sound design, the single is a surefire weapon in any house DJ’s discography.

As Medlar (real name Ned Pegler) told DJ Mag, he bought his first pair of decks in 2002. Pegler was introduced to Wolf Music founder Matt Wolf by London DJ Greymatter, who shared offices with the label. He released his debut album, Sleep, on WOLF in 2013.
WOLFEP050 sees Pegler explore a less sample-based incarnation of his subtle signature sound. Previously, his music has derived clear-cut inspiration from the likes of jazz, soul and disco.
