Meet SynthVR, a Virtual Reality Modular Synthesizer by Daniel Rothmann

It was only a matter of time before COVID-19 lockdowns led innovators to an intersection between VR and analogue synthesizers. Machine learning engineer Daniel Rothmann is designing a virtual reality modular synthesizer called SynthVR. A beta version is playable via SideQuest.

In a LinkedIn post, Rothmann noted that modules are limited as the beta primarily serves as proof of concept. In the latest installment of his “Development Log” YouTube series, he gave a walkthrough of SynthVR’s functionality. Among other things, the finished product might offer solutions for producers who can’t afford modular synthesizers or would prefer not to bother with their technical intricacies.

Daniel Rothmann is a Danish engineer who works for The LEGO Group as of 2020. Previously an audio engineer, he has explored methods of audio signal processing with neural networks. In his first “Development Log” video for SynthVR, he shared that he is also an electronic music fan.
