With the COVID-19 pandemic threatening live music venues across the globe, another German club has resorted to desperate measures in hopes of remaining afloat. Similar to the Let’s Continue initiative unveiled by Berlin’s Watergate Club, storied Offenbach destination Robert Johnson has launched a fundraiser called SEE YOU SOON.
The campaign aims to raise capital by selling merchandise as well as original artwork donated to the establishment. Among the artists who contributed pieces to the cause are Robert Johnson co-founder Ata Matias and Berlin DJ and producer Dixon.
Robert Johnson Revisited
Opened in 1999 by local scene fixtures Ana and Sebastian Kahrs, Robert Johnson is arguably the last holdover of Frankfurt’s techno/house golden era. According to Resident Advisor, its Martin Audio system and capacity of 250 fostered an intimate environment that attracted the likes of Roman Flügel and Heiko MSO.
Two decades later, the club has largely continued to cater to fans of left-field electronic music. Last year’s 60-hour 20th anniversary party, for instance, billed the likes of Francesko Del Garda and Nicolas Lutz.
Donations can be made via Robert Johnson’s StartNext page and items can be purchased on the SEE YOU SOON website.
