A decision made by Spain’s president spells relief for Ibiza clubs. Pedro Sanchez has announced that foreign tourism will once again be allowed in July after officials had banned it to curb the spread of COVID-19.
Sanchez said that Spain “needs tourism, and tourism needs safety in both origin and destination. We will guarantee that tourists will not run any risks, nor will they bring any risk to our country.” He has not disclosed whether those coming in from abroad will still be required to isolate for 14 days upon entry.
As with venues on the mainland, White Isle superclub like Hï Ibiza and Ushuaïa will be required to operate at 30% capacity in compliance with current restrictions. They had previously been forced to clear their schedules for April and May.
President Sanchez is thought to have made the announcement after pressure mounted from a protest organized by far-right protest group Vox. He also said a €3 billion basic income scheme to aid those displaced by the pandemic would arrive in the next few weeks.
