Selector’s Sounds series follows a system that puts music quality before of status or industry relationships. Learn how.
Into the convoluted fabric of iO (Mulen)‘s broader discography are woven anonymous artist imprints such as Whiteloops, Blackloops, VOY and MOi. His November, 2019 release under the latter brand – a minimal techno two-tracker titled MOI010 – demonstrates why his music continues to reach tastemakers no matter the delivery method.
Both singles comprising the 12-inch record encapsulate one the distinctive sounds championed by the Ukrainian producer (whose real name is Oleksandr Voznichenko). The A-side is largely percussive with tasteful tonal atmospheres creeping into various points of the arrangement, and said high-end elements are even more present on the flip.
The Many Faces of iO (Mulen)
As Voznichenko told Trommel in a February, 2020 interview, iO was originally a joint project between Artem Zhovtobriukh and himself. Along with several of their friends and colleagues, they launched Mulen Records in 2012. The imprint inaugurated with a collaboration between the duo and Goshva.
Now a solo act, Voznichenko has added (Mulen) to the moniker and gone on to unfurl his contemporaries’ manifold permutations of house and techno into a growing number of separate labels. In addition to the aforementioned anonymous brands, he facilitates others’ releases through imprints like Oldivibes, Hoarder and Winder.
MOI010 arrived by way of MOi on November 22nd, 2019. It can be previewed or ordered via deejay.de, Juno Records and Decks Records.
