Bandcamp‘s latest no-fee holiday proved almost twice as successful as the one prior. The online music store was responsible for $7.1 million in sales on May 1st, 2020.
“No Fee Friday” marks a day that the streaming and download service waives all the additional charges on music and merchandise sold through their site. The first such event – which took place Friday, March 20th – amassed $4.3 million in sales. The company’s management started the tradition in light of the losses suffered by artists on account of COVID-19 restrictions.
“Musicians will continue to feel the effects of lost touring income for many months to come, so we’re also sharing some ideas below on how fans can support the artists they love and how artists can give fans new, creative ways to provide support,” reads an update written by Bandcamp Co-Founder and CEO Ethan Diamond. “It may sound simple, but the best way to help artists is with your direct financial support, and we hope you’ll join us through the coming months as we work to support artists in this challenging time.”
Bandcamp has announced two more no-fee holidays: One on June 5th, and another on July 3rd, 2020.
