Considering Maceo Plex A.K.A. Eric Estornel’s recent creative tangent, his latest endeavor may come as something of a surprise. The American-born, Spain-based DJ and producer has brought his Maetrik project back for the debut release on a brand new record label called Clash Lion.
Ahead of the release of Return next month, Estornel has shared one of the EP’s two singles. Although certainly a more diabolical manifestation of Estornel’s particular brand of techno, “Cortex 11 – B” features more on the high end than most minimal techno on the market. However, as opposed to his recent studio-length album, Solar, it stops short of conventional melody, which ought to help hold the interest of more discerning techno purists.
Clash Lion is the joint venture of Shall Ocin, Terr, and Daniel Watts, whose respective bodies of work encompass a broad swath of the electronic music spectrum. As the accompanying SoundCloud blurb for “Cortex 11 – B” points out, Return is an apt title for the EP being that five years have elapsed since Estornel’s last release through the Maetrik project.
Return by Maetrik A.K.A. Maceo Plex comes out on Clash Lion September 29th. Find the official website for the fledgling label here.
