Thomas Jack Marks Deep House Transition with The Versus EP

Thomas Jack has spent the last two years distancing himself from tropical house, and his new EP solidifies his creative metamorphosis. Titled The Versus EP, the effort comprises two tasteful deep house singles that make a firm stylistic statement.

The EP begins with “Shortline,” whose meandering vocal refrain intermingles with a stripped-down synth arpeggio, all of which is underscored by a reverberant bass line. “Basic Instinct” encapsulates much of the same, but with an acoustic guitar sample that channels elements of the “Rivers” producer’s older discography.

Thomas Jack has played more house and techno in his DJ sets as time has gone by, and even his singles leading up to The Versus EP exhibited his more classic recent musings. However, the EP itself is a distinct milestone of sorts for the producer. When speaking to Billboard about his original style of tropical house, Jack said:

That sound is old and outdated now, and that whole genre went so pop. The focus always went to radio, radio, radio. That was never my aim … I think this is all the start of something that will continue to evolve over the next year. I’m looking forward to sharing more releases following Versus. This summer is definitely my time to continue developing into my new sound and really find my groove in the process.

The Versus EP came out via Parlophone UK on July 21st. Meanwhile, Thomas Jack continues his world tour with a performance today, July 24th, at Hï Ibiza.
