Oliver Huntemann has accompanied his new single with a visuals that makes not-so-thinly veiled social commentary. The Hamburg DJ, producer and Senso Sounds label head has released the Svensøn & Svensøn-directed music video for “Rotlicht.”
“Rotlicht” translates to “red light” in German – which stands in juxtapose to the track’s black-and-white video. The meticulously executed minimal techno arrangement is set to footage from the first moon landing in 1969, as well as some of atomic bomb tests and building demolitions. Ominous symbols and visual disruptions give the concept an iconic essence, as if to make an abstract statement that serves as a time capsule for future generations.
“Rotlicht” is but one of 12 tracks on Oliver Huntemann’s upcoming LP, Propaganda. Egytian-born, United Arab Emirates-based producer Raxon has offered up his own remix of the single, which builds up more slowly than the source material but features distinctly more visceral peaks.
On Propaganda, Huntemann has said:
The sound of Propaganda is more grown up, I’ve left the times of reducing to the max behind to create a certain atmosphere throughout the whole album. Of course most tracks work well on the dancefloor but the task was also to make them as interesting as possible for listening sessions – simply to reach another level.
