John O’Callaghan is one of the most celebrated names in contemporary trance, and he’s about to put out a new single on one of his more popular aliases. The Irish DJ and producer has shared a clip of an ID which he will release under his Joint Operations Centre moniker.
The as-yet-unnamed song showcases a distinctly darker side of the trance genre. Minimal melody and heavy atmospheric elements speak to a sensibility more commonly heard in modern techno, but built upon a 138 BPM framework. In place of the euphoric swell you might expect at the breakdown, a monologue sampled from an old film contributes to the song’s subversive mental imagery.
Joint Operations Centre is no newcomer to the trance world; O’Callaghan has released music through the project for nearly a decade. Most recently, his remix of his own single, “The Forging Of Steel,” appeared on Bryan Kearney and Chris Schweizer‘s 2017 Who’s Afraid Of 138?! compilation.
John O’Callaghan’s ID will come out via Kearnage on August 21st.
