Jamie Jones and Nathan Barato have served up a taste of their upcoming effort. Jones, the co-founder of house label Hot Creations, and Barato, one of its longtime fixtures, whet the appetites of their fans with “Cherry’s Revenge,” the lead single from an EP of its namesake.
“Cherry’s Revenge” goes light on melody but makes up for it with an expertly fine-tuned bass line. What few samples do serve as a counterbalance on the high end of the arrangement make the concept all the more lively without causing it to boil over into gimmick territory.
The Darker Side of the Dance Floor
The full Cherry’s Revenge EP will not come out on Hot Creations, but on Jones’ other imprint, Hottrax. Unlike the former label, he launched Hottrax in 2015 for the purposes of “showcasing the darker side of the dance floor.” Lee Foss, the other co-founder of Hot Creations, also recently launched a separate imprint called Repopulate Mars – through which the French tech house producer Shiba San just released an EP titled What’s On My Mind.
Cherry’s Revenge by Jamie Jones and Nathan Barato will also feature a single titled “Cheating Chester.” The two-track EP arrives by way of Hottrax on July 14th.
