The XX’s Night + Day Iceland Halted as Grounds Declared Endangered

Those looking forward to Night + Day Iceland have been met with unfortunate news. The festival put on by English indie band The XX has been cancelled after the Environmental Agency of Iceland declared its location an endangered area.

The event was scheduled to take place between July 14th-16th at the Skogafoss waterfall in Skogafoss, Iceland, and feature performances by the likes of BjarkiEarl SweatshirtJamie XXWarpaint and Floating Points. According to a statement given to the Reykjavík Grapevine, however, the organizers did not have enough time to provide proof that their festival wouldn’t have any impact on the site or find an alternative location.

The promoter has guaranteed refunds in full within five business days to each purchaser. In addition, the statement encouraged ticket holders who had made flight and lodging arrangements to email them at ndiceland@thewarehouseproject.com.

Night + Day Iceland would have marked the first time that the Skogafoss waterfall had been used as the site of a live music event. 6,000 tickets had been issued in total.

The XX has not announced a consolation event of any kind as of this writing, but will continue on their own tour with performances at Roskilde Festival in Roskilde, Denmark and Open’er Festival in Gdynia, Poland on June 30th and July 1st, respectively.
