Doc Martin A.K.A. Martin Mendoza has delivered an ode to Detroit mainstay Old Miami and tapped two remixers along the way. The Los Angeles DJ, producer and Sublevel Music boss released a single titled “Monday At Old Miami” through Desert Hearts alongside a re-rub by Joeski and another by Mikey Lion and Desert Hearts label head Lee Reynolds.
Mendoza’s original mix of “Monday At Old Miami” weaves wonky synth work through a sultry vocal by Lillia in a style that borders on tech house while remaining tastefully true to form. The “Joeski On Acid Mix” as well as the Mikey Lion and Lee Reynolds’ “Still Trippin’ Remix” both predictably incorporate Roland TB-303 acid house squelches into their respective arrangements, with the former fostering a darker ambience than the latter.
Old Miami is a staple of the Detroit underground and hosts a number of events coinciding with the techno festival Movement every Memorial Day Weekend. Mendoza did, in fact, perform there during an event called Need I Say More XII this year on Monday, May 30th – which undoubtedly inspired his latest single to some degree.
Doc Martin’s “Monday At Old Miami” along with the “Joeski On Acid Mix” and “Mikey Lion & Lee Reynolds Still Trippin’ Remix” are all available as an EP for free download via Desert Hearts – in MP3 form here and in WAV form here.
