Dance music DJs and producers have leveraged their celebrity for a plethora of different causes. Now, animal cruelty can be added to that list. Jonny White, better known as the Canadian house act Art Department, has launched an initiative called Music Against Animal Cruelty (MAAC).

MAAC’s first fundraiser event has been announced: a benefit for the Lion Guardians Foundation in collaboration with Midi Minds Kenya that will take place in Nairobi, Kenya on July 1st. White and The Legend are billed as out-of-town headliners with locals FoozakSURAJ and Dylan-S filling the remaining time slots.

In addition to rallying music industry professionals behind the cause of protecting endangered animals, MAAC will also plan and execute guerrilla operations. White elaborates:

Guerrilla Tactics will support smaller, more urgent initiatives, maybe a rescue mission to the Yulin dog meat festival in China, maybe the urgent treatment of an animal rescued from the circus or laboratory, situations where even $1000 can decide whether an individual animal might live or die.
