DJ Tennis A.K.A. Manfredi Romano has created a new imprint inspired by a nostalgic sensibility. The Life and Death label head joined forces with one of his label’s frequently signed acts, Marvin & Guy, to launch Life of Marvin (LOM), a platform for early ’90s Italian techno and house.
Life of Marvin will highlight an era in the Italian techno scene in between the Italo-disco of the ’80s and the progressive techno of the late ’90s, apparently with reissues of singles from the period. The first two are “Crossed Movements” by Roby J and “Clinic Rhythm” by Sick Hardcore. Both originally came out on Franco and Riccardo Falsini’s Interactive Test imprint, which released music between 1991-1993.
Earlier in the month, Marvin & Guy (whose real names are Marcello Giordani and Alessandro Parlatore) released their own two-tracker via Life and Death, the retro-focused Superior Conjunction. Romano himself has recently been enlisted to deliver a two-disc mix for !K7‘s DJ Kicks compilation series.
Among the artists whose music will be released on Life of Marvin moving forward are Francesco Farfa, Gabry Fasano and Marco Calderoni. Neither DJ Tennis nor Marvin & Guy have officially announced any titles or release dates of upcoming EPs at this time.
