Kid Drama A.K.A. Jon Convex A.K.A. CNVX partners with a venerable drum and bass label for his upcoming release. The London DJ and producer (whose real name is Damon Kirkham) is slated to put out an EP titled Trife through Metalheadz on July 7th.
The first single from the EP has arrived in the form of “Brutal D.” The ambient melody soaring over the syncopated drum beat of the single land it closer to the liquid end of the drum and bass spectrum than most of what Kirkham has released through the Kid Drama project since adopting the moniker in 2013.
Metalheadz has been a fixture of the drum and bass world far longer. Breakbeat and jungle veteran Goldie founded the label alongside Kemistry & Storm in 1994, and it has provided a platform for such artists as Photek, Wax Doctor, Source Direct, Ed Rush and Optical in the years since.
Kirkham started the Kid Drama project after discontinuing Instra:mental, a duo he formed with fellow Londoner Boddika. As Jon Convex, however, his productions incline themselves more toward techno and electro.
