This uncertainty has made it difficult for organizers to plan large-scale events and has left some fans doubting that festivals will return in 2021. According to a new interview with Belgian epidemiologist Pierre Van Damme, however, Tomorrowland 2021 may be able to take place as scheduled through the use of testing villages and masks.

When speaking to Gazet van Antwerpen about the festival, Van Damme stated that he believes the festival can still take place if attendees wear masks. He shared that test villages with rapid testing services are being discussed. It’s not yet clear what exactly would constitute a test village or how it would differ from a standard testing site. The report also suggests that there will be a meeting between festival and government officials in the near future, which will potentially lead to news for prospective attendees.

At the time of writing, Tomorrowland organizers have not released an official statement regarding the test villages or specific measures that will be implemented in 2021. In place of any concrete information on next summer’s event, a general health and safety statement was shared, stating that they will be operating by the rules set by the national government and affirming their commitment to the safety of those involved.

“The preparations for Tomorrowland 2021 are currently ongoing,” reads a passage. “Governmental instructions will be followed up closely during these preparations. The well-being, health, and safety of the People of Tomorrow, our partners, our neighbors, the artists, and our team are still our top priority.”

The next iteration of Tomorrowland is set to take place July 16th–18th and July 23rd–25th, 2021 in Boom, Belgium. Previous performers include Black Coffee, Carl Cox and Eric Prydz. Additional information on the event can be found on the event website.

Tomorrowland’s U.S. Expansion, TomorrowWorld, to Return https://selector.news/2017/07/31/tomorrowlands-u-s-expansion-tomorrowworld-return/ https://selector.news/2017/07/31/tomorrowlands-u-s-expansion-tomorrowworld-return/#respond Mon, 31 Jul 2017 12:33:56 +0000 https://selector.news/?p=961 Electronic music fans fortunate enough to have experienced TomorrowWorld can delight in a new development. After being canceled indefinitely following the festival’s ill-fated 2015 edition, the festival will reportedly make a celebrated return at an as-yet-unspecified time.

According to Belgian news source De Tijd, the organizers of Boom, Belgium festival Tomorrowland have mended their relationship with LiveStyle, the company formerly known as SFX Entertainment. Tomorrowland spokesperson Debby Wilmsen said, “The relations between SFX and Tomorrowland were acidified, but now that new people are in control of the current LiveStyle, there is a new approach.”

Tomorrowland parent company ID&T organized the first edition of TomorrowWorld outside Atlanta, Georgia in 2013. In 2015, transportation breakdowns that endangered thousands of festival goers arguably became the most well-chronicled instance of SFX Entertainment’s mismanagement of its numerous electronic music brands, and easily the one to trigger the most fallout.

SFX declared chapter 11 bankruptcy in February of last year. An extensive corporate restructuring saw the multinational conglomerate rebrand itself as LiveStyle in December, with former AEG Presents CEO Randy Phillips replacing Robert F.X. Sillerman as chief officer, in addition to other leadership changes.

Wilmsen said that it was still uncertain whether TomorrowWorld would return in 2018 or further on down the road.

Tomorrowland UNITE Spain Evacuated Due to Stage Fire https://selector.news/2017/07/31/tomorrowland-unite-spain-evacuated-stage-fire/ https://selector.news/2017/07/31/tomorrowland-unite-spain-evacuated-stage-fire/#respond Mon, 31 Jul 2017 11:32:27 +0000 https://selector.news/?p=956 While Tomorrowland‘s flagship gathering took place in Belgium this last weekend, unfortunate circumstances befell one of its satellite events. 22,000 revelers were evacuated from the grounds of Tomorrowland UNITE Spain when its main stage caught fire on the evening of Saturday, the 29th.

According to a statement on the UNITE Spain website, a “technical malfunction” was responsible for the fire, which caused no injuries. “Authorities will follow up and continue the investigation with the local Spanish organizer of UNITE,” it said.

Tomorrowland’s UNITE events afford fans abroad an opportunity to tune into the Boom, Belgium festival by streaming performances from its main stage along with synchronized effects and additional headliners. UNITE Spain had taken place at the Marsa Sports Grounds in Barcelona.

A post on a separate website instructs Tomorrowland UNITE Spain attendees to keep their bracelets, promising a full refund of the ticket price in addition to any leftover balance on their account.

Paul van Dyk Debuts Pierre Pienaar Collaboration at Tomorrowland https://selector.news/2017/07/25/paul-van-dyk-pierre-pienaar-tomorrowland/ https://selector.news/2017/07/25/paul-van-dyk-pierre-pienaar-tomorrowland/#respond Tue, 25 Jul 2017 14:39:16 +0000 https://selector.news/?p=863 Paul van Dyk took the opportunity to premiere his latest piece of music during his set at Tomorrowland last weekend. Titled “Stronger Together,” the single is a collaboration between the German trance icon and a Namibian DJ and producer named Pierre Pienaar.

In a video segment from the Tomorrowland live stream that was later posted to the Paul van Dyk Facebook page, audio of the live debut of the track accompanies various shots from under the festival’s Trance Energy stage. Even without a featured vocalist, each euphoric crescendo of “Stronger Together” sends ripples of motion through the audience.

Although van Dyk’s trance credentials extend as far back to the genre’s early ’90s origins, Pierre Pienaar is a far more obscure artist. The latter has gained more momentum recently, though. A year ago a song of his titled “Novus Vitae” rose to #3 on Ferry Corsten‘s weekly radio show, Corsten’s Countdown, and in February another called “Emirembe” made it onto the podcast again.

Paul van Dyk and Pierre Pienaar’s “Stronger Together” came out on the former producer’s artist imprint, Vandit Records, on July 21st. Find the track for download via Beatport.

38 Tomorrowland Ticket Holders Barred From Festival Ahead of Time https://selector.news/2017/07/13/38-tomorrowland-ticket-holders-barred-festival-ahead-time/ https://selector.news/2017/07/13/38-tomorrowland-ticket-holders-barred-festival-ahead-time/#respond Thu, 13 Jul 2017 12:37:04 +0000 https://selector.news/?p=743 Promoters around the world have increased security precautions after a suicide bombing at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester struck fear into the hearts of music fans back in May. Tomorrowland has taken it a step further than the others, though. The Boom, Belgium festival’s organizers have denied access to 38 different ticket holders.

Belgian authorities screened ticket holders based on criteria that a handful of Belgian media outlets have called strict. While they did not specifically disclose what factors disqualified each one from attending, the measures were meant to identify individuals with potential for radical behavior. Belgian police also investigated staff members.

Tomorrowland’s organizers sold 400,000 tickets to the 2017 edition of the festival – over twice as many as last year. However, this year’s installment takes place over two weekends for a total of six days where the 2016 edition only ran for three.

Tomorrowland is slated for July 21st-23rd and 28th-30th at the De Schorre recreation ground in Boom, Belgium.
