Custom transformer circuitry in the euphonia by Rupert Neve Designs adds what AlphaTheta calls “harmonics to the music.” The four-channel rotary mixer’s circuitry also boasts a high signal output, with 32-bit D/A and A/D converters.

Its output also uses 96khz/64-bit floating point and AlphaTheta’s proprietary DSP mixing operations. A “Boost Level” switch adjusts the volume level of each frequency band by 0dB to +12dB, depending on the users preference.

Unique Faders and Weights

The near black-finish mixer is slightly larger but similar-looking than its E&S and Bozak competitors, coming standard with four large rotary faders. Each copper fader comes with vibration-absorbent elastomer knobs for smooth volume control. The “3Band Master Isolator” knobs atop the mixer control the cutoff and slope of the master frequencies.

Special weights are also built into each fader knob, as the AlphaTheta site explains:

“When you turn [the fader] at different speeds… a smooth [weight] load is applied when you turn a knob slowly for delicate fine-tuning… a limited load level is applied when you turn a knob quickly to instantly reach your intended volume level.”

The euphonia’s “Energy Visualizer” digital display carries a spectral analyzer and “4-needle” VU Meter, showing a meter for each channel.

Send Effects and Boost Send

Send effects on the euphonia include Delay, Tape Echo, Echo Verb, Reverb, Shimmer, and HPF (high-pass filter).

These effects are accessed via a send button for each channel, with send/return inputs for external devices. A mechanism controls the clicking on Delay, Echo and Echo Verb effects, setting to its specific parameters on the display. Alternatively, the knob will stop clicking and turn smoothly when Reverb or Shimmer is selected, based on non-BPM parameters.

The “Boost Send” feature also pairs with the 3Band knobs. Using the Boost Send button adds effects to the low, mid and high bands, allowing for one-handed effect and EQ control.

Pricing, Additional Support and Availability

The euphonia costs $3,799 and is available now.

Serato DJ Pro and rekordbox software support is available for the euphonia mixer.

For Serato DJ Pro, support is available now via a paid upgrade. Find more information and download Serato on their website.

For rekordbox, a Core, Creative or Professional plan ($10-$30/monthly) is available to access the DVS support feature for the euphonia. Find out more information on AlphaTheta’s website.

Pioneer CDJ-3000 Firmware Update 2.0 Allows Track Playback via Cloud Storage https://selector.news/2021/12/04/pioneer-cdj-3000s-firmware-update-2-0-rekordbox/ https://selector.news/2021/12/04/pioneer-cdj-3000s-firmware-update-2-0-rekordbox/#respond Sat, 04 Dec 2021 20:02:02 +0000 https://selector.news/?p=10281 The latest firmware update for the CDJ-3000 Media Player is now available with a new rekordbox feature, allowing DJs to play media directly from saved cloud storage locations.

rekordbox CloudDirectPlay gives access to music and media on rekordbox without the need to upload any additional music to a USB. Libraries save on Dropbox and also work with existing tracks and files on the USB.

Editing any track metadata through rekordbox saves and uploads to the cloud immediately for accurate updates across all software and CDJ-3000 units. Once a playlist is ready, simply logging into rekordbox via the CDJ-3000 screen opens the playlist for full access.

If a user misplaces a USB, disabling playlist access is possible with a few clicks through rekordbox’s desktop app. Music on the USB will still be manually accessible, however.

Subscriptions to either rekordbox’s Creative or Professional plans ($14.99 per month or $29.99 per month) unlock CloudDirectPlay. Additionally, The CDJ-3000 needs internet connectivity via the PRO DJ Link terminal in order to utilize CloudDirectPlay in its entirety.

The Pioneer CDJ-3000 Media Player is available now for $2,399.  Find more information and download the CDJ-3000 firmware on Pioneer’s website.

Mixed In Key 10 Features Upgraded Key Detection, Cue Point Export To Rekordbox https://selector.news/2021/05/07/mixed-in-key-10-rekordbox/ https://selector.news/2021/05/07/mixed-in-key-10-rekordbox/#respond Fri, 07 May 2021 18:41:59 +0000 https://selector.news/?p=7961 Mixed In Key has celebrated 15 years of business by releasing a brand-new version of their flagship key detection software.

The arrival of Mixed In Key 10 rolls out many new features, most importantly an update to their signature key detection algorithm. The company has stated that their newest software “combines the work of American, British and Swiss data scientists to create an algorithm that exceeds the previous version’s results by 10%.”

The Camelot Wheel

Mixed In Key software is based on a DJ technique called harmonic mixing, analyzing the musical key of every file. The Camelot EasyMix System powers Mixed In Key 10’s software, represented by the multicolor wheel below.

Each musical key in the Camelot Wheel is represented by a number and letter combination. The outer rings represent major chords, while the inner rings represent minor chords. Simply selecting tracks forward or backward on the wheel (clockwise or counterclockwise) yields a blend in the same key. Up to four key ranges are compatible with each section of the Camelot wheel.

Rekordbox Ready

Along with internal updates and a new user interface, cue point export and management for Pioneer DJ‘s Rekordbox software is now available in Mixed In Key 10. The software generates eight cue points on a track, based on common musical phrases and downbeats in modern songs. Points then automatically “snap” or quantize to the grid of the track in Rekordbox, saving users time on manual adjustments.

Mixed in Key 10 costs $58; purchasers of earlier versions can upgrade for $39. More information is available on the Mixed In Key website.

Prolink Tools Shows Track IDs in Any Live Stream https://selector.news/2021/02/05/prolink-tools/ https://selector.news/2021/02/05/prolink-tools/#respond Fri, 05 Feb 2021 15:01:10 +0000 https://selector.news/?p=6493 Evan Purkhiser‘s Prolink Tools app looks to make things even easier for the modern-day trainspotter.

In a live stream chatroom audiences often request identification on tracks. Most of the time these queries go missing in the chat (like emote-only moments on Twitch) or the performer simply doesn’t see it at all. Prolink Tools’ prime feature handles this issue by creating a “Live Now Playing” overlay for streaming sites.

By using Pioneer DJ’s ProDJ Link network via ethernet, the app reads Rekordbox metadata from each Pioneer device. When a Pioneer device has an active channel playing audio, a simple-font tag appears on the stream displaying the track artist, title and label. Metadata found in Rekordbox (like track comments and catalogue numbers) can also be included on the overlay. Once everything looks correct, the overlay URL from the interface can be placed into apps like OBS or StreamLabs.

Prolink Tools’ desktop interface also displays BPMs, pitch adjustments, connected devices and more, all at a glance.

Real-Time Knowledge

Prolink Tools is free to download and currently in beta development. Later updates with new overlay themes, a cue counter, history export, and even track auto-tweeting are coming soon. A growing Discord channel is also available, with developer Evan Purkhiser providing the latest info and updates.

Download the app and find more information on the Prolink Tools website.

Rekordbox 6.1.1 Released with Edit Mode and TIDAL Support https://selector.news/2020/09/25/pionee-dj-rekordbox-6-1-1-edit-mode-tidal/ https://selector.news/2020/09/25/pionee-dj-rekordbox-6-1-1-edit-mode-tidal/#respond Fri, 25 Sep 2020 21:22:39 +0000 https://selector.news/?p=4118 Pioneer DJ‘s Rekordbox 6.1.1 is out this week with two key updates to the application: a track editing mode and support for the TIDAL streaming service.

The simply titled Edit Mode allows users to splice audio and make custom versions of song files. Functions such as extending intros and outros and removing breakdowns in tracks can now be performed within the app – no DAW export required. The Beatgrid – normally to set quantization in order to sync tracks across Pioneer media players and controllers – serves as the arrangement window. A Palette function stores and organizes clips as the track is edited, and project file saving is available to make changes to tracks at any time within Rekordbox.

A Creative subscription plan starts at $15/month (with a 30-day free trial) in order to use Edit Mode and other features, such as their new Vocal Detection Algorithm.

A TIDAL subscription introduces integration with Rekordbox as well as over 60 million high-quality songs and music videos. Once paired with TIDAL, a Hardware Unlock device – like their latest CDJ-3000 or DJM-V10 mixer – can use the update in Performance Mode along with any Pioneer subscription plan.

The flagship version of Pioneer DJ’s Rekordbox was introduced in 2009, with their first mobile app (1.5.2) being introduced in 2012. The 3.0 upgrade in the summer of 2014 made the interface more intuitive with a two-deck player mode and tagging systems. In late 2015, Rekordbox DJ Pro Plus subscription packages were made available, giving users various levels of access to pioneer performance tools and other features.
