The #32BreaksGround fundraiser is broken into two phases. The first phase will see organizers construct artist studios, a cafe, and a library in their new art center. After raising enough funds, they will will move on to the second and final phase which includes additional studios as well as a “workshop space, a gallery, accommodation, and art shops.”

In a recent Instagram post, the two artists shared information on the fundraiser and announced plans to host a charity show in honor of the cause early next month. The event will be held at the Wild Coffee Bar in Kampala and will also be live streamed on Kampire’s Twitch channel for those who cannot attend. For the April outing, they promise surprise guests and new merchandise in support of the fundraiser.

32° East | Ugandan Arts Trust’s #32BreaksGround fundraiser kicked off on March 16th, 2021. Organizers shared that their goal is to raise $200,000 in one month and move on to the final phase of the project. Artists like Kampire, Slikback, Suzi Analogue and Waajeed are among the 341 acts billed for the four-day event. Multiple crews from across the globe are represented on the lineup, such as France’s Yoke Collective, South Africa’s Pussy Party, and Norway’s 3rd Space. Also included are AV installations, dance workshops and films. Nyege Nyege started out as a record label and collective in 2013. Founded by expats Arlen Dilsizian and Derek Debru initially as a club night at Tilapia called Boutiq Electronique, it emphasized obscure local electronic music styles like kuduro, tarraxinha and balani as well as western genres like house and techno. 2015 marked the first year of Nyege Nyege festival; it has taken place annually ever since at an abandoned resort in the city of Jinja.
