Organizers have given would-be attendees a chance to experience performances from the six-day gathering as part of a temporary platform called MUTEK Replay.

Recorded sets from artists like Boogieman & Samito, CMD, Guillaume Coutu Dumont, T. Gowdy, OBUXUM and Tati au Miel will be available through Replay until November 30th. It includes all audiovisual works from the event’s Distant Arcades exhibition as well as 20 of their Stream On performances.

MUTEK’s organizers debuted a digital experience in 2020 owing to restrictions imposed to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus. For all its limitations, the event at least succeeded in offering something that previous editions didn’t. Live streams from artists performing in Argentina, France, Japan, Mexico, and other countries were available to those who attended the online event.

All of the Replay recordings can be streamed through the end of November via Virtual.Mutek.org.

MUTEK Montréal 2020 to Combine Digital and Physical Event Formats https://selector.news/2020/09/04/mutek-montreal-2020-digital-physical/ https://selector.news/2020/09/04/mutek-montreal-2020-digital-physical/#respond Fri, 04 Sep 2020 22:49:25 +0000 https://selector.news/?p=3785 For a time, the organizers of MUTEK Montréal questioned whether the COVID-19 crisis would prevent their 2020 event from taking place at all. The digital art and music festival will indeed move forward from September 8th-13th – although not entirely as planned.

Borrowing elements of the MUTEK.SF digital makeup event, NEXUS Experience, MUTEK Montréal will consist of a partly online and partly in-person event. The travel ban imposed by Canadian authorities last month means that only local artists and musicians such as Maarten VosPoirierSoftcoresoft and Artexte have been billed for the gathering. The performances will take place at Cinquième Salle of Place des Arts and the SAT’s SATosphère.

Meanwhile, live streams from the flagship event as well as those of satellite editions in Argentina, France, Japan, Mexico, and other countries will be available through a virtual experience.

As August drew to a close, so too did an event ban that categorically forbid all large gatherings in Quebec. MUTEK Montréal will offer a case study of sorts in how events can be held responsibly amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

“All festivals everywhere on the planet are asking themselves what to do,” said Mutek Director Alain Mongeau, reported the Montreal Gazette. “Just doing something is an achievement in itself.”
