Crate Digging is a monthly roundup of top-tier tracks you might have missed from across the electronic music spectrum.

From obscurities uncovered during trips down Bandcamp rabbit holes to the latest releases from legendary artists, Crate Digging is here to keep your collection up to date.

1. Donato Dozzy & Rumi – Flusso [Rebirth]

Maestro of hypnotic techno Donato Dozzy teams up with Rumi to pay homage to the early pioneers of the Italian underground scene with “Flusso,” a chugging, deep, tribal-tinged house cut. Organic percussion snakes around a spacious low end groove, while moody vocal chants and dreamy pads add a layer of slowly building tension.

2. Biesmans – Sunday Love [Rhythm Cult]

Biesmans delivers warm, uplifting house sounds with just the right amount of oomph. “Sunday Love” combines swinging, chunky drums, catchy vocals, and reverbed chord stabs to create a delightful groove before introducing a beautiful, euphoric breakdown at the track’s midpoint.

3. Nite Fleit – Like I Used To Be [Steel City Dance Discs]

Taken from Nite Fleit‘s debut album, “Like I Used To Be” showcases the more melodic, introspective side of her music. Dreamy chords, synthetic melodies, a melancholy vocal, and otherworldly effects take turns at the forefront of the track, underpinned by tight, snappy drums.

4. Possible People – Loving Is Hard [Extra Spicy]

Extra Spicy continue their hot streak with a slice of deep jungle from Australian duo Possible People. “Loving Is Hard” revels in its nostalgia for early works from the likes of PhotekLTJ Bukem, and Omnio Trio. It blends airy breaks, lush pads, reverbed vocals, and punchy sub to create a heady, swirling and captivating atmosphere.

5. Michael Diamond – Submerged [Vāsuki Sound]

A strong start for both Vāsuki Sound and Michael Diamond, “Submerged” draws from his experience as a resident of long-running underground night Simple, and his deep love of jazz and harmony. The result is an ethereal, bass-heavy, and expansive electronica piece that tugs on the heart strings.

6. Client_03 – Autonomous Correction [Client_03]

The enigmatic Client_03 is one of the most exciting producers in the contemporary electro scene, and “Autonomous Correction” shows exactly why. With its tight, bouncy beats, gritty bass line, quirky effects, and infectious energy, it blends elements of footwork and electro into a guaranteed dance floor slayer.

7. Lux Prima – We Shall Erupt [SaS Recordings]

A psychedelic midtempo slice of electronica, “We Shall Erupt” is from Lux Prima‘s forthcoming album on SaS Recordings. Quirky arpeggios, filtered pads, analogue drums, and driving bass bring noise, dissonance, beauty and harmony together into a captivating whole.

8. DJ Steaw – I Can’t Feel It [Kaoz Theory]

Paris-based DJ, producer and label owner DJ Steaw joins Kerri Chandler‘s Kaoz Theory with a peak-time house jam that encapsulates the classic vibes of ’90s New York City. Steaw’s penchant for adding a raw edge to his productions comes through thanks to the gritty bass hook, euphoric organ lines, and ethereal chords.

9. Robag Wruhme – Robellada.22 [Tulpa Ovi Records]

Label head Robag Wruhme takes a laid-back, spacious trip through precise sound design, immersive field recordings, organic drums, and hypnotic bells. “Robellada.22” is one of those tracks that cruises along without ever really shifting gears and is all the better for it.

10. LADYMONIX – High Notes [Frizner Electric]

Detroit’s LADYMONIX has had a phenomenal couple of years, continuing the city’s legacy as a hotspot for proper, soulful house music. With its jacking, groovy drums, warm bass line, and catchy saxophone loop, “High Notes” is definitely an apt title.

Kerri Chandler Announces New Album, Spaces and Places https://selector.news/2022/04/26/kerri-chandler-spaces-places/ https://selector.news/2022/04/26/kerri-chandler-spaces-places/#respond Wed, 27 Apr 2022 01:41:51 +0000 https://selector.news/?p=11453 Influential DJ and producer Kerri Chandler has announced a new album called Spaces and Places, to be released through his Kaoz Theory record label. It marks his first album since 2008’s Computer Games and will be released digitally and on vinyl.

Spanning 24 tracks, the album was produced over a four-year period in temporary studios set up at clubs such as Ministry of Sound in London, Knockdown Center in New York, and Lux Frágil in Lisbon. Each track was written and performed live on each club’s dance floor.

Speaking about why he chose to record it this way, Chandler said, “I wanted to express the love of what could be possible in capturing my productions in the venue, from the heart of the space, right on the dance floor.”

Chandler began producing music at the age of fourteen. Since the release of his first single SuperLover/Get It Off, he has released over 100 records.

The record follows a recent EP of his titled Lost & Found Vol. 1, released earlier this year. Last year, he debuted a new live show in London that shared the same name as his upcoming album.

To celebrate the announcement, Chandler released a single from the album titled “Never Through” featuring Sunchilde recorded at Printworks. Those interested can listen to the track here.

Kerri Chandler to Play Reel-to-Reel Set with Holograms at The RoadHouse in London https://selector.news/2020/12/02/kerri-chandler-spaces-places-reel-reel/ https://selector.news/2020/12/02/kerri-chandler-spaces-places-reel-reel/#respond Wed, 02 Dec 2020 23:39:00 +0000 https://selector.news/?p=5659 Kerri Chandler has announced a 2021 performance with more dimension than a typical DJ performance. Kerri Chandler’s Spaces & Places will see the New Jersey DJ and producer play a reel-to-real set accompanied by holograms of famous house singers. The event is slated for November 28th, 2021.

As a throwback to performances that shaped Chandler’s musical aesthetic by the likes of Frankie Knuckles and David Morales, he will play music using four reel-to-reel tape players. Famous house music vocalists will join Chandler onstage virtually via holographic images the likes of which he began experimenting with over a decade ago. The show will additionally debut projection mapping technology developed by Panasonic that will wrap around the round shape of the venue.

Kerry Chandler Revisited

By the time Kerry Chandler released his debut two tracker SuperLover/Get It Off via Atlantic Records in 1991, he was well steeped in house music and its predecessors. His father, Joseph Chandler, was a jazz musician who exposed him to soul and disco as well as disc jockeying itself. At 14 he began interning in recording studios and building his foundation as a producer.

November 2021 will not be the first time Chandler has performed with four reel-to-reel players. In February, he performed a reel-to-reel set in Resident Advisor‘s London office.

More information on Kerri Chandler’s Spaces & Places can be found on the event’s AEG Presents listing.
