A four-tracker by way of his Pryda moniker, the Elements EP serves up the sort of progressive house for which the Swedish DJ and producer has garnered worldwide renown over the past several years.

The title track is driven by a signature Eric Prydz arpeggio framed by stripped-down percussion and atmospheric elements. “Obsessive Progressive” follows with a touch less adrenaline and soft vocal chops that fit it for the opening of a set. Both “The HoaX” and “Project L.O.V.E” meet the ear more with more suspense than the tracks preceding them, each building tension with dissonant chord progressions and layered harmonies.

It will be difficult for Eric Prydz to outdo the tracks comprising his 2016 artist album, Opus. Efforts like the Elements EP afford the producer more ammunition for his nearly all-original DJ sets, although they may not prove as memorable as other entries in his now massive discography.

Eric Prydz’ Elements EP arrives by way of Pryda Recordings today, May 18th. Stream or download the EP via Spotify, Apple Music, Google Play Music or Beatport here.

Eric Prydz Serves Up Cirez D Remix of “Directions” by Beton https://selector.news/2018/05/07/eric-prydz-serves-cirez-d-remix-directions-anonymous-producer-beton/ https://selector.news/2018/05/07/eric-prydz-serves-cirez-d-remix-directions-anonymous-producer-beton/#respond Mon, 07 May 2018 16:41:10 +0000 https://selector.news/?p=1657 With festival season well under way, Eric Prydz looks to be ramping up releases. Last week he announced a Pryda EP in the works. Today he’s delivered a Cirez D remix of “Directions” by Beton via Tiga‘s Turbo Recordings imprint.

The techno Prydz puts out under his Cirez D alias often lacks the nuanced texturing of more sophisticated selections. His “Directions” remix doesn’t make up for it with much in the way of conceptual substance. What atonal noise he contributed in his rendition clashes with the nostalgic, rubbery synth melody of the source material.

While the layered melodies and meticulous sound design of Prydz’ progressive house releases have garnered the Swedish producer worldwide renown, his techno releases as Cirez D seldom measure up. As he caters to a younger fan base, few of them have discerning enough tastes to recognize that it dilutes his discography as a whole.

Beton remains an anonymous producer (a la Teser). “Directions” was his Wevie Stonder collaboration which Tiga released on Turbo Recordings in February after testing it out live.

Eric Prydz to Release Four-Track Pryda EP https://selector.news/2018/05/03/eric-prydz-release-four-track-pryda-ep/ https://selector.news/2018/05/03/eric-prydz-release-four-track-pryda-ep/#respond Thu, 03 May 2018 11:43:26 +0000 https://selector.news/?p=1641 The prolific Eric Prydz has announced the first 2018 effort under his longstanding moniker. In keeping with the monumental mystique of his brand, he has revealed no title or release date for the four-track Pryda EP.

Last November the iconic progressive house producer delivered the first four-tracker of his Tonja Holma alias. A few days later he followed it up with the release of “Stay With Me,” which had found its way into his sets since last summer.

Now, Prydz has teased his next Pryda EP with the following tweet:

Eric Prydz now releases music under four separate names: Pryda, Tonja Holma, Cirez D, and his birth name. Although he once reserved the former for more progressive house-oriented music, it has grown virtually interchangeable with the latter.

Eric Prydz will resume touring with a handful of dates surrounding the 2018 edition of Electric Daisy Carnival, which returns to Las Vegas, Nevada May 18th-20th.

Eric Prydz Inaugurates New Alias with Four-Track Tonja EP https://selector.news/2017/11/14/eric-prydz-inaugurates-new-alias-four-track-tonja-ep/ https://selector.news/2017/11/14/eric-prydz-inaugurates-new-alias-four-track-tonja-ep/#respond Tue, 14 Nov 2017 15:29:41 +0000 https://selector.news/?p=1494 After cultivating a mystique around his brand new Tonja Holma moniker, Eric Prydz has unveiled its debut release. The Tonja EP consists of four slow-burning progressive house cuts that exist in the happy medium between his more melodic and more dissonant musings.

Subtlety is central to the effort’s appeal. Whereas much Prydz’ 2016 artist album, Opus, spoke to the Swedish producer’s sense of high concept, the songs comprising the Tonja EP resulted from painstaking executions of simpler ideas. Even the scrawled words of the album art suggest a back-to-basics approach uncommon to the Eric Prydz brand.

As with any of his music, each entry of the Tonja EP‘s tracklist have surely found their way into numerous Eric Prydz sets leading up to its official release. What remains to be seen is how frequently he will put out music under the alias moving forward.

The Tonja EP by Eric Prydz (under his Tonja Holma alias) is out on Pryda Presents and can be purchased via Beatport.

Eric Prydz to Release EP Under Brank New Alias Next Week https://selector.news/2017/11/07/eric-prydz-release-ep-brank-new-alias-next-week/ https://selector.news/2017/11/07/eric-prydz-release-ep-brank-new-alias-next-week/#respond Tue, 07 Nov 2017 14:39:34 +0000 https://selector.news/?p=1472 Between his birth name, Pryda and Cirez DEric Prydz divides his music across a handful of aliases. Next week, his fans can look forward to another. The Swedish progressive house superstar has announced that he will release the Tonja EP as Tonja Holma.

Prydz shared music from the new project via Snapchat last week, but has only recently made mention of the EP. In characteristically cryptic fashion, he tweeted the following:

In a subsequent tweet, Prydz revealed that his recent single, “Stay With Me,” will come out November 20th. He had debuted the track at an August installment of his Hï Ibiza Tuesday residency, dubbing it “Pry-Trance.”

Where Pryda and Eric Prydz releases have grown nearly interchangeable in recent years, the producer reserves his Cirez D moniker for more dissonant techno releases. He has not revealed what sort of creative outlet Tonja Holma will satisfy at this time, however.

The Tonja EP by Eric Prydz comes out November 13th.

Eric Prydz Debuts “Pry-Trance” Single at Hï Ibiza https://selector.news/2017/08/14/eric-prydz-debuts-pry-trance-single-hi-ibiza/ https://selector.news/2017/08/14/eric-prydz-debuts-pry-trance-single-hi-ibiza/#respond Mon, 14 Aug 2017 13:45:42 +0000 https://selector.news/?p=1123 An as-yet-unreleased ID that surfaced from one of Eric Prydz‘ sets has his fans in a frenzy. The Swedish icon took to the stage at Hï Ibiza in the most recent installment of his Tuesday residency to premiere a track that’s easier to categorize than much of his discography.

Prydz had cryptically tweeted the solitary phrase “Pry-Trance” last month with no further explanation. Considering the producer’s penchant for cryptic releases, fans speculate that the tweet was an allusion to the song he just dropped. Indeed, aside from a metallic swoosh that rings out repeatedly for much of the track, its sound design elements liken it to much of what comes out in the trance genre.

Although his signature blend of progressive house and synthwave is in a class all its own, Prydz certainly isn’t averse to trance. He has performed at festival stages curated by Armin van Buuren‘s A State Of Trance in the past, and his diehard fan base overlaps with much of the genre’s impassioned following.

Eric Prydz has not revealed an official title or release date for his “Pry-Trance” single at this time. After a performance tomorrow, August 15th, he will close out his Hï Ibiza residency with a final show on the 22nd.

Prydateer Podcast Shares a Set from Eric Prydz’ Hï Ibiza Residency https://selector.news/2017/08/08/listen-set-eric-prydz-hi-ibiza-residency/ https://selector.news/2017/08/08/listen-set-eric-prydz-hi-ibiza-residency/#respond Tue, 08 Aug 2017 13:51:21 +0000 https://selector.news/?p=1085 To experience an Eric Prydz set firsthand is to understand why he has become such a ubiquitous presence in electronic music as of late. For those who haven’t, Prydateer Podcast offers the next best thing. The fledgling broadcast platform has uploaded a recording from the Swedish DJ and producer’s most recent Hï Ibiza performance to SoundCloud.

The set in question exhibits Prydz’ more melodic musings. It starts with what fans have dubbed his “Police Escort ID” (as he opened with the track at Tomorrowland after being rushed there by Belgian authorities at 160 MPH) and keeps the soaring synthwave arpeggios constant through the next couple of tracks. The tone gets more sinister around midway through the roughly one-hour recording before coming full circle near the end.

Night and Day

Eric Prydz boasts a diverse enough discography to cater to a wide range of house and techno fans during his performances. While the music he puts out under his birth name and his Pryda moniker have grown mostly interchangeable as of late, he reserves his Cirez D alias for techno singles – like his recent release, “The Accuser.”

The set recording was originally uploaded by BBC Radio 1 on August 5th, but they did not disclose whether it was from Prydz’ most recent Hï Ibiza set or one further back. Prydateer Podcast shared it on SoundCloud under a Creative Commons license shortly thereafter.

Eric Prydz continues his Hï Ibiza residency with a headlining set tonight, August 8th. His Tuesday weekly will draw to a close after two more performances on the 15th and 22nd.

Eric Prydz Announces Release Date of New Cirez D Single https://selector.news/2017/07/26/eric-prydz-announces-release-date-new-cirez-d-single/ https://selector.news/2017/07/26/eric-prydz-announces-release-date-new-cirez-d-single/#respond Wed, 26 Jul 2017 05:44:38 +0000 https://selector.news/?p=882 Eric Prydz has revealed the official release information regarding one of his latest singles. The Swedish progressive house DJ and producer disclosed the title of a new track from his Cirez D techno alias last week, and has now shared that “The Accuser” will come out in digital and vinyl formats on July 31st.

“The Accuser” marks the first Cirez D release of 2017, and it will be accompanied by the Pryda remix of the project’s 2009 single, “On Off.” Prydz had debuted the remix during his performance at India’s Vh1 Supersonic back in February, and later tweeted video captured during the premiere.

Compared to 2015-2016, Prydz has gone relatively light on new music. Last year saw the iconic producer release his highly anticipated artist album, Opus, and later on in the year he collaborated with progressive house provocateur deadmau5 on a live performance at Tomorrowland in Belgium.

Eric Prydz ID Surfaces Following Premiere on EPIC Radio https://selector.news/2017/07/21/eric-prydz-id-epic-radio-premiere/ https://selector.news/2017/07/21/eric-prydz-id-epic-radio-premiere/#respond Fri, 21 Jul 2017 21:09:13 +0000 https://selector.news/?p=831 If there’s one thing Eric Prydz fans are good at, it’s cataloguing his discography before it even comes out. The Swedish DJ and producer premiered an ID on last week’s episode of his Beats 1 series, EPIC Radio, and they’ve already taken it upon themselves to rip the track and assign it a working title.

“Takin’ My Freedom” – so named for its anthemic female vocal refrain – is textbook Eric Prydz. Glassy, vaguely synth wave-reminiscent melodies build to peaks with a tasteful measure of mass appeal. While Prydz sets are notoriously flexible depending on his audience, the ID will surely find its way into plenty of his upcoming performances.

The Many Faces of Eric Prydz

In addition to releasing music under his birth name, Eric Prydz has also put out songs via his Pryda and Cirez D monikers over the years. The former has more or less become interchangeable with his core brand, with the latter devoted to his more dissonant techno singles – the most recent of which being a track titled “The Accuser.”

Eric Prydz has yet to officially release the ID tentatively called “Takin’ My Freedom” on any of his promotional avenues. Meanwhile, he will continue his residency at Hï Ibiza with a performance on Tuesday, July 25th.

Eric Prydz Releases First Cirez D Single of 2017 https://selector.news/2017/07/17/eric-prydz-first-cirez-d-2017/ https://selector.news/2017/07/17/eric-prydz-first-cirez-d-2017/#respond Mon, 17 Jul 2017 14:43:43 +0000 https://selector.news/?p=764 Eric Prydz releases have been comparatively sparse in 2017, but a single from his techno alias could be a first step towards correcting that trend. In typical Prydz fashion he played the mysterious Cirez D track out for months prior to its release, but has just revealed that its title is “The Accuser.”

A melodic arpeggio ushers in the first several bars of the track. After an eery vocal refrain, however, discordant pluck synths steer the arrangement into more experimental territory. “The Accuser” is unlikely to find its way into the sets of techno purists, but it’s one of the more compelling recent products of Prydz’ Cirez D project.

Eric Prydz fans had taken the liberty of nicknaming the song “Satan ID” prior to its release. Last week, Prydz had revealed that new Cirez D was on the way, and “The Accuser” could be one of several singles from the alias to see the light of day in the near future.

This summer, Eric Prydz kicked off a residency at Hï Ibiza, which has replaced Ibiza nightclub Ushuaïa. He is slated to perform for another installment of the weekly tomorrow, July 18th.
